Project Description:
This project was part of a major infrastructure upgrade in Turkey's prestigious South-east Anatolian Project (GAP) area. The city of Şanlıurfa is a large urban centre in the GAP area and has a population growth rate higher than that of any other urban centre in Turkey. As a result of increased investment in the area brought by the GAP project, the population is expected to rise substantially in the future, bringing with it new housing and infrastructure development challenges for the city.
The project's first objective was to legalise the status of the present housing scattered throughout the city. The second objective was to generate property maps and plans for future developments in accordance with year 2020 population projections. The last objective was to upgrade the roads of 11 of the city's central districts.

Project Description:
The financing for this project was provided by the World Bank. The project sought to improve the tourism potential and attractiveness of urban settlements (municipalities) along the coastal strip (approx. 3,000 km) of Muğla Province. The project included a feasibility study to identify areas of significance and existing infrastructure conditions in the region, including all municipalities and villages along the coast.
Existing roads, water supply and wastewater collection and treatment facilities, as well as solid waste, power and communications infrastructure, were evaluated.
Works related to services in the area included the collection of all relevant information on the condition and capacity of existing infrastructure, and the preparation of proposals and design information that contained financing alternatives for improvement.
