The purpose of this project was to minimize the leakage problem of İzmir's water distribution network. In order to determine the amount of leakage, macro water production was compared against micro water usage.

Based on the results obtained, areas with leakage problems were determined and surveys were conducted to locate specific problem areas using state-of-the-art leakage detection equipment. 1/2500 scale maps were used to analyse the present distribution network for 15 different regions of the city. In addition, existing meter locations were tested in order to determine whether or not new regions would be needed for better pressure regulation throughout the network.

It is planned to reduce the water leakage ratio from 61% to 20-25%.

The design year of the project is 2025. Fullowing technical measures have been realised:

Leak detection Project for Köyceğiz:

• Execution of a basic leak detection campaign for Köyceğiz and supervision for related leak remediation measures.

Köyceğiz Water Supply System:

• Rehabilitation and expension of the existing water supply system of Köyceğiz
• Design capacity is 16,000 cap and 70km.

Dalyan Water Supply System:

• Construction of a new water supply system for Dalyan whose design capacity is 20,000 cap and 42 km.

Köyceğiz and Dalyan Sewerage System:

• Construction of new sewerage systems.
• Each first with about 50km
• Wastewater pump stations: 3 units (120l/sec)

Köyceğiz and Dalyan Waste Water Treatment Plant:

• Standards according to EU wastewater directive
• Population capacity: 32,000 PE (Köyceğiz), 24,000 PE (Dalyan)

Ortaca Sanitary Landfill:

• Total capacity: 500,000 m³
• Population capacity: 100,000 P.E.
• Area of the Sanitary Landfill: 3,5 ha

• Detailed design and preparation of tender documents on the basis of FIDIC rules (Red Book) for all physical construction measures (water, wastewater, solid waste)
• Assistance to Municipality during construction tenders
• Site supervision in compliance with FIDIC Rules.
• Tariff study and financial analyses (dynamic prime cost calculations and cash flow estimates, budget plans).
• Institutional assistance.
• Technical and non-technical training.
• Establishment of an environmental monitoring scheme and specification of related laboratory facilities and staff requirements.
